Wishing that Spring would come with Dew Drops

Is anyone beside me thinking ahead to spring?  We’ve had a mild winter here in the Northwestern US.  I thought for today’s project, I would tackle a cute little bird house.  You can make this as small or as large as you wish.  The tear shaped dew drops make an awesome “tiled” roof, don’t they?

Ingredients:
Wooden Birdhouse – I used a small $1.00 size, but this could be made much bigger
Acrylic paint – pink and off white
Elmer’s School Glue
Tacky Glue
Dew Drops in Light Blue, Blue and Light Purple  Dew Drops Tear Drops (they look pink on the paint)
Vintage Lily of the Valley
Sheer Fuchsia Ribbon – 1 yard

First paint the birdhouse.  Paint with the base color.  I used pink (Hydrangea Pink).   Let the base coat dry.  Paint the entire house with Elmer’s School Glue and allow to dry until the surface is tacky.  Lightly paint over the glue with the off white paint (Antique White).  When it dries you have instant crackle paint.  Of course you could do this with you favorite crackle paint.  If you intend to use your birdhouse outside, you will need to finish your base surface to “weather proof it”.

Adhere the Dew Drops with an appropriate adhesive for the use.  I plan to use mine indoors so used Tacky Glue.  If you are using outdoors please use a water resistant glue.  Do one side of the roof at a time.  Keeping the roof as flat as possible (mine is propped up on a ribbon spool here).  This will keep the Dew Drops from sliding.  Let dry and do the other side.

Adhere the flowers to your house, keeping in mind whether it is to be used indoors or outdoors.  Finally add the ribbon.  Find the center of the ribbon and wrap it around the birdhouse, beginning at the front and ending with the ends in the front.  Tie a double knot tightly.  Wrap three lengths of ribbon loosely around your four fingers.  Pull off of fingers and twist in the middle.  Tie to the base wrap with another double knot.  Trim ends of ribbon used to wrap the base to the desired length.

Hope you are all having a blessed New Year and I’ll be back with some Valentine’s Day ideas on the 18th.

With my best wishes ~ Victoria
